At this time, the Everett School District does not have a weighted
GPA.
What is a Weighted GPA?
All courses are not equal in rigor. Honors courses are more demanding
than regular courses. Advanced Placement and International
Baccalaureate Courses are more demanding than Honors courses. College
admissions officers know this. A "B" say in AP World History is much
more impressive than an "A" in a regular history course. Students
sometimes unwisely avoid demanding courses (such as AP) to protect
their prized GPA. They need a little incentive. Many Universities, such
as the University of California, recalculate students' GPA and give
more weight to tougher courses.
The AP/IB Boosters' Weighted GPA Proposal (draft)
High school Weighted GPA should be used for GPA and class ranking.
Based on 100 point index.
Honors courses +12.5 weight (equal to +0.5 on GPA scale)
Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate courses (with a
culminating national or international exam) +25.0 weight (equal to +1.0
on GPA
scale)

Excerpt from the Mariner HS 2004/2005 Course Catalog
Since the single best indicator of college success is "rigorous courses
taken in high school," a district committee has been exploring
"weighting" class rank. The proposed class rank system would award
additional "weight" for honors and Advanced Placement courses. If
approved by the School Board, this Weighted Class Rank would come into
effect for the Class of 2008 and all subsequent classes.
Based on 100 point index.
Honors courses +6.25 weight (equal to +0.25 on GPA scale)
Advanced Placement (AP) courses +12.5 weight (equal to +0.5 on GPA
scale)
