Advanced Academic Endorsement

Last updated January 9, 2006

At this time, the Everett School District does not have an Advanced Academic Endorsement for students. We think it should.

What is an Advanced Academic Endorsement?

An Advanced Academic Endorsement (AAE) is a way to recognize academic achievement. It promotes a rigorous curriculum. It encourages students to take academic risks and challenge themselves. The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma is the epitome of an AAE. Other forms of an AAE include a special notation on the high school diploma. It can include certificates for single subject area achievement.

HECB (Washington's Higher Education Coordinating Board)
Over the past several years, the board has found broad consensus among educators that the current minimum admission requirements are inadequate and that too many high school graduates are not prepared for college-level work.

With the goal of helping more students succeed in college, the board proposed the following revisions to the state's minimum admission requirements for freshmen entering Washington's public four-year colleges and universities, beginning in summer 2008:

    * Requiring four credits of mathematics, with at least one credit in the senior year of high school;
    * Requiring two credits of laboratory science, one of which is algebra-based;
    * Requiring three credits of academic core coursework in each year of high school; and
    * Eliminating the statewide college Admissions Index, which ranks students based solely on grade point averages and test scores and does not consider the difficulty of coursework.
